DISPLAY TEST & MEASUREMENT APPLICATIONS
The field of display test and measurement involves the measurement of the luminance or color of a
spot on the display surface for a given test pattern (displayed image), spot position and viewing angle. Simple tests yield a single data point, which may represent a single reading, or a simple function (an average or ratio) of multiple readings. More complex tests yield a function relating an optical value to a spatial parameter: For example, luminance as a function of position, or color as a function of angle.
Simple Photometric Measurements may be performed with a luminance meter (photometer), a colorimeter, or a spectroradiometer. Tests in this category include:
- Luminance
- Contrast Ratio
- Gamma (Gray Scale/EOTF)
Simple Color Measurements require the use of a colorimeter or spectroradiometer. Tests in this category include:
- Chromaticity
- CCT (Correlated Color Temperature)
- Gamut mapping (RGB plotting)
- Dominant Wavelength & Purity
- White Balance, Gray Balance
More Complex Tests: Sensors can be integrated with positioning systems, sources, and other components to support more complex display characterization, including:
- Spatial Uniformity (Flat-field)
- Angular Distribution
- Veiling Glare
- Specular and Diffuse Reflectance
- Haze
- MTF (Modulation Transfer Function)
- BRDF (Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function)
