UDT Instruments Debuts Industry's First Dual CRT/FPD Colorimeter
The SLS 9400FC-PLUS sets new standards in colorimeter portability, affordability and measurement performance.

San Diego, CA, May 25, 2010 – UDT Instruments, a Gamma Scientific Company and global manufacturer of electro-optical instruments, today announced the SLS 9400FC-PLUS, the industry's first colorimeter to provide dual FPD/CRT color measurement capability. Unlike conventional colorimeters, the SLS 9400FC-PLUS is handheld and battery-operated, making it ideal for field use and sharing between production lines. The instrument also features NIST-traceable precision and performance that rivals many lab-grade instruments that cost thousands more, However, it is priced hundreds less than competing colorimeters that measure only FPDs or CRTs. Additional features include contact and non-contact measurement capability which solves contact measurement issues associated with touch screen FPDs, unique light-collection geometry that eliminates polarization error from displays and field-calibration capability that enables users to create new calibration standards as required. The instrument makes its debut at SID 2010 in Seattle, Washington, at Gamma Scientific/UDTi booth 638.

“The SLS 9400FC-PLUS represents a complete redesign of the colorimeter concept” said Nick Lena, product line manager. “Dual CRT/FPD measurement is huge in and of itself, as users no longer have to purchase two separate colorimeters for a complete measurement solution. This, combined with the instrument portability, affordable pricing and lab-grade performance, opens the door to many new applications and display field calibration possibilities.” For example, smaller companies might share the instrument throughout the production facility. Larger facilities can install more colorimeters without expanding their budget. Further, field personnel can easily be outfitted to handle anything from service calls to comprehensive home theater setups. Storing new targets or calibrations is accomplished with a simple touch of a button.

Despite its lab-grade performance, the SLS 9400FC-PLUS is refreshingly simple to operate. A four-button, menu-based user interface makes it easy to collect, store and analyze data. A large, easy-to-read backlit, numerical and graphic LCD display provides a bar graph of RGB or xyY, u’v’Y and XYZ, as well as CCT and Delta E values. Moreover, the SLS 9400FC-PLUS can be operated in one hand, leaving the other free to perform any required monitor adjustments. Its ergonomic design allows the unit to rest firmly on a table top.
